Working the Hockey Way

It seems that I’m taking the Atlanta Thrashers’ new slogan, “The Hockey Way,” to heart: today I worked the Hockey Way. Thanks to Rusty at FeO Consulting, I now have all of my blog posts transferred to my own website. Technical work like that bores me to tears, but it wasn’t so bad today since we wrapped everything up over lunch and hockey.

My favorite player, Jim Slater, has been scratched the last few games. Anyone who has seen me recently knows this, because I whine about it constantly. I wandered up to practice today so I could at least see Jimmy skate. Our captain, Ilya Kovalchuck, is out for the next four weeks with a broken foot. It’s bad news to be sure, but I’m hoping it means that Slater is back in the lineup. He was certainly giving it his all today, and was one of the few players already out on the ice when I arrived.

After sitting in the bleachers at the practice rink for a while, Rusty and I headed upstairs to the Breakaway Grill, which overlooks the ice. He worked his code-monkey magic, occasionally explaining things to me – or trying to, at least. I was a little distracted because, let’s face it, watching the Thrashers is far more engrossing than a bunch of html code. It was a nice break from sitting in my office, though. Working while watching Thrashers practice might become a new habit.
