DragonCon 2010: Down the Rabbit Hole

DragonCon this year was, as usual, a great time. In fact, I’ll go so far as to say it was my best DragonCon yet. We attended less panels, giving us a lot more time for just sitting around to watch the (weird) world go by.

We had a huge crowd this year, ranging from the usual gang (me, Ed, Chris, Ashley, Rusty, Mom) to the teens (Hunter, Morgan, Emily). Hunter and I got in line to buy her ticket at the door, and I owe a huge thanks to the kind staff member who got my badge for me. The post-registration line might have been an hour, but my pre-reg line circled the entire block.

And, despite all the work I did on my Dr. Alice costume, everyone still thought I was dressed as Abby from NCIS. Even in my Star Wars poodle skirt, I got “Great Abby costume!” compliments. Next year, I think I’ll wear a nametag that says “Hello, my name is not Abby.” Ah, well. I put my hair in pigtails on Monday, pulled on a goth dress, and enjoyed getting my picture taken all day long.

Highlights this year included:

-Mom and I getting our picture taken with James and Oliver Phelps, better known as the Weasley Twins in the Harry Potter movies.

-Seeing Edward Furlong in the Walk of Fame. It was my single star-struck moment of the weekend. I had a huge crush on him when Terminator 2 came out.

-Sitting in the lounge above the main floor in the Marriott, watching the costumed revelers below. And, of course, watching Mom greet Neil Grayston, who plays Fargo on Eureka.

-The Eureka/Warehouse 13 panel. Colin Ferguson (Sherriff Carter on Eureka) came out wearing a Thrashers jersey. As if that weren’t enough, the panel was absolutely hilarious.

-Seeing people who were part of the Thriller dance last year. It was nice to see familiar faces!
